Let the no. of males and females be m&n
then atq ,
(5%of m plus 8% of n )=9600-9000
5m plus 8n =60000
also m plus n =9000
on solving both equations
m=4000 , n=5000
m:n=4:5

Solution :

Let the population of males = x, then the population of females = 9000 -x

Now , 5% of x + 8% of ( 9000 -x)

= ( 9600 - 9000) = 600

or 0.05 x + 720 - 0.08 x = 600

or 720 -600 = 0.08 x - 0.05 x

or , 120 = 0.03 x

x = 4000

Reqd of population of males and females

=4000/9000−40000=4000/5000=4:5

Alternate solution :

Total percentage increase in population is ,

5% ( male + female) + 3% female

⇒5%(9000)+3% female =600

⇒450+3% female =600

⇒1% female =500

100% female = 5000

100% male = 4000

Ratio = 4: 5
