In a circle ,a chord 3cm away from the centre is 8cm long. What is the length of a chord 2cm away from the centre?​

Using Pythagoras theorem

(H)^2=(P)^2+(B)^2

(H)^2=(3)^2+(4)^2

(H)^2=9+16

(H)^2=25

H=5

Again, Using Pythagoras theorem

(H)^2=(P)^2+(B)^2

(H)^2-(P)^2=(B)^2

(5)^2-(2)^2=(B)^2

25-4=(B)^2

21=(B)^2

(or), (B)^2=21

B=√21

length of chord=2B

therefore, the length of chord is 2√21
