Given : In a class of 60, the pa ssing mark for a mathematics test is that 3rd quartile.

To Find : Correct option

a. 45 students did not pa ssed the test

b. 25% of the students pa ssed the test

c.  15 students pa ssed the test

d. all of the above

Solution:

Q₁ - 1st Quartile / lower quartile  represent 25  % of data below this

Q₂ - 2nd quartile / Median represent  50  % of data below this

Q₃ - 3rd Quartile / upper quartile represent 75  % of data below this

pa ssing mark for a mathematics test is that 3rd quartile.

Hence 75 % students are below pa ss marks

so 100  - 75 =  25 % students pa ssed

number of students pa ssed = (25/100) 60  = 15

Number of students did not pa ss = 60 - 15  = 45

Hence all of the above are correct :

45 students did not pa ssed the test

25% of the students pa ssed the test

15 students pa ssed the test

all of the above
