In a class of 60, where boys are twice that of girls, Ramya ranked 17th from the top. If there are 9 boys ahead of Ramya, how many girls are after her in the rank ?

Total number of students = 60
Let number of boys          = 2x
      number of girls           = x
               OR
      number of girls           = 60 - 2x

According to Question

60-2x    =     x
60         =     x + 2x
60         =     3x
60/3      =     x
x           =     20

Total number of girls = x  = 20
Number of girls before Ranmya's rank = 17-9-1 = 7
Number of girls after Ramya's rank      = 20-7-1
                                                             = 12

The (-1) has been done to exclude Ramya.
