Concept:

The arrangement of students/ elements in a sequence can be in two forms either left to right or top to bottom. We have the formula to find the total number of students/elements in a row:

Total number of students= Rank from left + Rank from right - 1 [ same position]

When the arrangement is from top to bottom then we will right "left as top" and "right as the bottom".

Given:

Total number of students = 56

Sita rank from last = 15

Raja is 4 rank before the rank of Sita.

Find:

We have to find the rank of Raja from the top.

Solution:

Total number of students = 56

Sita rank from last = 15

Raja is 4 rank before the rank of Sita:

So, Raja's ranks from last = 15+4

                                          = 19

We have a formula :

Total number of students= Rank from left + Rank from right - 1 [ same position]

So,

Raja's ranks from the top=  Total number of students - Raja's ranks from last + 1

Raja's ranks from the top= 56 -  19 +1

                                    = 38.

Hence, the rank of Raja from the top is 38.
