In a class the girls are 60 percent of the total number of students and the boys are 18 in number. How many students are there in the class.

Let the total number of students be x

Now, percentage of girls = 60%

Percentage of boys = 100 - 60 = 40%

So, 40% of x = 18

⇒ 40/100 × x = 18

⇒ 2/5 × x = 18

⇒ 2x = 18 × 5

⇒ x = 90/2

⇒ x = 45

Hence, total number of students in the class is 45.
