In a cow farm, the ratio of the number of cows which give milk to the number of cows which don’t is 8 : 3. The number of cows which don’t give milk is 144. How many cows do given milk? And how many cows are there in all?​

Answer:

The ratio of the number of cows which give milk to the number of cows which don’t = 8:3

8x + 3x = total cows

number of cows which don’t give milk =3x = 144

x = 144/3

x = 48

number of cows which give milk = 8x = 48 x 8 = 384

total cows = 8x + 3x

                 = 384 + 144

                 = 528
