In a cricket match, a cricketer tries to play the hook shot but the ball hits the edge of the bat and rises vertically upwards with an initial velocity of 30m/s. the fielder settles him self under the ball and takes the catch after n seconds since the batsman edged the ball. What is n?

\displaystyle\large\underline{\sf\red{Given}}

✭ A cricketer edges a ball and the ball rises up with an initial velocity of 30 m/s

✭ It takes n seconds for a fielder to cash the ball

\displaystyle\large\underline{\sf\blue{To \ Find}}

◈ The time taken [n]?

\displaystyle\large\underline{\sf\gray{Solution}}

So here when the ball to reach the highest point it's velocity will be zero, then we shall find this time and multiply it with 2 as the ball goes up and comes down!!

\underline{\bigstar\:\textsf{According to the given Question :}}

So to find the time taken to reach the Highest point we shall use,

\displaystyle\underline{\boxed{\sf v = u+at}}

  • v = Final Velocity = 0 m/s
  • u = Initial Velocity = 30 m/s
  • a = Acceleration = -10 m/s² [Speed is being reduced]
  • t = Time = ?

Substituting the values,

\displaystyle\sf v = u+at

\displaystyle\sf 0 = 30+(-10) \times t

\displaystyle\sf -30 = -10t

\displaystyle\sf \dfrac{-30}{-10} = t

\displaystyle\sf \dfrac{30}{10} = t

\displaystyle\sf \orange{Time = 3 \ sec}

So now to go up it takes 3 sec and it also has to come down so that the fielder can catch the ball so the total time will be,

\displaystyle\sf Total \ time = 3+3

\displaystyle\sf \pink{n = 6 \ sec}

\displaystyle\therefore\:\underline{\sf The \ value \ of \ n \ is \ 6 sec}
