Answer:

  • The Formula of the compound is AB₂

Given:

  • "A" Occupies Lattice points.
  • "B" Occupies Octahedral voids and 1/2 of tetrahedral voids.

Explanation:

________________________

As given, "A" occupies lattice points,

Therefore,

No. of A atoms = No. of Lattice Points

We know for CCP,

  • Lattice Point = 4

Substituting,

⇒ No. of A atoms = 4

Number of A atoms forming CCP = 4

In case of "B" Element it occupies octahedral voids completely and 1/2 of the tetrahedral voids.

Therefore,

Atoms of B = O.V Voids + 1 / 2 T.V Voids

We know in CCP,

  • O.V Voids = 4
  • T.V. Voids = 8

Substituting,

⇒ Atoms of B = 4 + (1 / 2 × 8)

⇒ Atoms of B = 4 + 4

⇒ Atoms of B = 8

Number of Atoms of B = 8

Now, Finding the formula,

Formula of the compound =  A : B

                                            =  A : B = 4 : 8

                                            =  A : B = 1 : 2

                                            =  A : B = 1 : 2

The formula of the compound is AB₂.
