In A Face in the Dark, is it wrong if we write Shimla instead of Simla in an answer asking where the school is located?

yes, it is wrong to write shimla because shimla itself is a place and in the story simla bazaar reference is there which is in london.....

and the place is not compared to london...the school is compared to eton school of london

Yes the name of place is not Simla it's Shimla
A big mistake
In the story it is given as Simla
marks will not be cut...bcoz shimla means simla
