Given :

A family of 3 children

To Find :

The probability of having at least one boy is ?

Solution:

Probability of boy = \frac{1}{2}

Probability of girl = \frac{1}{2}

We are supposed to find In a family of 3 children , the probability of having at least one boy

Probability of having at least one boy = 1- Probability of having no boy

Probability of having at least one boy = 1- P(No boy)

Probability of having at least one boy = 1- P(All girls)

Probability of having at least one boy =1- (\frac{1}{2} \times \frac{1}{2} \times \frac{1}{2})

Probability of having at least one boy =1- (\frac{1}{8})

Probability of having at least one boy =\frac{1}{7}

Hence the probability of having at least one boy is 1/7
