Given :- In a field , if 50% of white walkers were ravens, then there would be 50% more ravens than white walkers. What percentage of the overall field is ravens ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, total ravens in the field are x and white walkers are y .

so,

→ when 50% of white walkers were ravens , they were = (y/2)

Then we can say that, rest 50% or half left were white walkers .

then,

→ Total white walkers = (y/2)

and,

→ Total ravens = [x + (y/2)]

now, it has been given that, in this case there would be 50% more ravens than white walkers.

A/q,

→ Total ravens = 150% of white walkers

→ [x + (y/2)] = (150/100) * (y/2)

→ x + (y/2) = (3y/4)

→ x = (3y/4) - (y/2)

→ x = (3y - 2y)/4

→ x = (y/4)

→ y = 4x .

then,

→ Overall ravens in the field = x * 100 / (x + y) = x * 100/(x + 4x) = x * 100 / 5x = 20% (Ans.)

Given : if 50% of white walkers were ravens, then there would be 50% more ravens than white walkers.

To Find :  What percentage of the overall field is ravens

Solution:

White walkers  =  A

ravens   =  B

50% of white walkers were ravens,

=>  white walkers  = A - (50/100)A  = A/2

ravens   =  B + A/2

there would be 50% more ravens than white walkers

B + A/2 =  (A/2) ( 1  + 50/100)

=> B +  A/2  =  (A/2)(3/2)

=>   B + A/2  = 3A/4

=> B =  3A/4 - A/2

=> B  = A/4

=> A = 4B

Total = A + B = 4B + B = 5B

ravens    = B

percentage of the overall field is ravens = (B/5B) * 100 = 20 %
