Let the speed be x km/hr

Time taken at normal speed  = 2800/x hr

Time taken when speed was slowed down = 2800/x - 100 hr

According to the Question,

2800/x - 10 = 2800/x + 1/2

⇒  2800/x - 100 - 2800/x  =  1/2

⇒ (2800x - 2800x + 280000)/x² - 100x =  1/2

⇒ 280000/x² - 100x = 1/2

⇒ 560000 = x² - 100x

x² - 100x - 560000 = 0

⇒ x² - 800x + 700x - 560000 = 0

⇒ x(x - 800) + 700(x - 800)  =  0

⇒ (x + 700) (x - 800)  =  0

⇒ x + 700 = 0 or x - 800 = 0

x = - 700, 800 (As x can't be negative)

x = 800

Original duration = 2800/800 = 3 hr 30 min.

Hence, original duration of the flight is 3 hr 30 min.
