Given:

300 men had provisions for 90 days.50 men left after 20 days.

To Find:

Duration for which 20 the food lasted.

Solution:

  • The remaining food is sufficient for 300 men for (90-20)days=70 days
  • Remaining number of men=(300-50)=250
  • Let,the remaining food be sufficient for 250 men for x days. Then we have

For, 300 men food is for 70 days

and,250 men is for x days

Clearly, less men will have food for more days

So, it is a case of inverse proportion.

     ∴300\times 70=250\times x

     ⇒x=\dfrac{300\times 70}{250}=84

  • ∴The required number of days=84
