EXPLANATION.

  • GIVEN

the denominator is one more than the

numerator.

if 1 is subtracted from the numerator and 1 is

added to the denominator the fraction become

1/4 .

To find the number.

According to the question,

Let the numerator be = x

Let the denominator be = x + 1

According to the question,

1 is subtracted from the numerator and 1 is

added to the denominator the fraction become

1/4 .

=> x - 1 / x + 1 + 1 = 1/4

=> x - 1 / x + 2 = 1/4

=> 4 ( x - 1 ) = x + 2

=> 4x - 4 = x + 2

=> 3x = 6

=> x = 2

Therefore,

Fraction are = x / x + 1 = 2 / 3

Let ,

The numerator of a fraction be " y "

First Case :

The denominator of a fraction is one more than the numerator

Thus , the fraction will be

x/(x + 1)

Second Case :

If 1 is subtracted from the numerator and 1 is added to the denominator the fraction becomes 1/4

Thus ,

(x - 1)/(x + 1 + 1) = 1/4

4(x - 1) = 1(x + 2)

4x - 4 = x + 2

4x - x = 2 + 4

3x = 6

x = 6/3

x = 2

 \sf \therefore \underline{The \:  fraction \:  is  \:  \frac{1}{3}  }
