Answer:

360 students

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us assume that the 'provision' is food ( for easier understanding)

To resolve this problem we have to assume each students requires the same amount of food each day and let's say it is 1 unit of food.

So in the start the hostel has  120*60= 7200 units of food

After 20 days ,ie, 40th day ,students will have consumed 120*20=2400 units of food

That means , 7200-2400= 4800 units of food is left .

Number of students increase by 'x' amount and thus food has finished in the next 10 days

SO,

(120+x)students *10 days = 4800 units\\(120+x)*10 = 4800 \\\\ 120+x=\frac{4800}{10}\\\\ 120+x=480\\\\x=480-120\\\\ x=360

Therefore we can say 360 students were added .
