Answer:

By Pascal's law:-

P1 = P2

F1/A1 = F2/A2

F2 =( A2 × F1 )/A1

The maximum weight that can be lift is F₁ A₂/ A₁

Given, The area of the larger cylinder of the hydraulic lift = A₂

           The area of the smaller cylinder of the hydraulic lift = A₁

            Force applied on the smaller cylinder =  F₁

Let, the force applied on the larger cylinder = F₂

According to Pascal's Law,

F₁ / A₁ = F₂ / A₂

⇒ F₂ = F₁ A₂/ A₁

Now, suppose the maximum weight that can be lifted = W

                                            = mg [m = mass, g = Acceleration due to gravity] = Force applied on the larger cylinder

= F₂

= F₁ A₂/ A₁

So, the maximum weight that can be lifted is F₁ A₂/ A₁ .
