Given:

Total distance of the journey = 450 km

The person completes 150 km in time = 3 hours

To find:

How long does the person take to complete the journey when he increases the speed by 20%?

Solution:

Distance left to be covered = 450 - 150 = 300 km

Speed of the person in the first 3 hours = Distance covered/ time = 150/3 = 50 km/hr

When the speed increases by 20%, new speed = 50 + (20/100)*50

=50 + 10 = 60 km/hr

Time taken to complete rest of the journey with a speed of 60 km/hr = Distance/ velocity

= 300/60 = 5 hrs.

Therefore the time required will be 5 hrs.
