The equivalent mass is a pure number. When a known mass if element is changed into oxide directly or indirectly , the mass of oxide is noted.

MASS OF OXYGEN= Mass of oxide-mass of element Thus,

Eq mass=mass if element*8/mass of oxygen

cool2121: My answer came out to be 32, but in book it's given 40.I don't know how
Anonystalker: Let the total amount of oxide be 100

∴∴ mass of oxygen is 20

∴∴ mass of element is (100-20)=80

∴∴ equivalent mass of element=massofelementmassofoxygenmassofelementmassofoxygen×8×8

=8020=8020×8×8

=32=32

Hence you are correct....
Anonystalker: I tried it online
Anonystalker: Said i was correct for saying 32 and wrong with 40
cool2121: ohk..thanks :)
