The answer is 48.34%

GIVEN

In a mixture of BaCl₂ and MgCl₂, Mol-fraction BaCl₂ is 0.3

TO FIND

Mass percentage of BaCl₂

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

We know that,

The sum of Mole fractions of solute and solvent is 1

Let the mol fraction of MgCl₂ be x

Therefore,

0.3 + x = 1

x = 1-0.3 = 0.7

Mole fraction of MgCl₂ is 0.7

Ratio of constituents of the mixture = 0.3/0.7 = 3/7

Mass% of BaCl₂ = (mass of BaCl₂/ mass of the mixture)× 100

 =  \frac{0.3 \times 208}{0.3 \times 208 +0.7  \times 95 }   \times 100

= 48.34%

Hence, The answer is 48.34%
