36

Given :

  • In a modal of a ship the mast is 8 cm high while the mast of the actual ship is 16 cm high.
  • The length of the ship is 36 m.

To Find :

  • How long is the model ship ?

Solution :

  • Let the required length of the model ship be x.
  • Ratio of height of mast = 8 : 16
  • Ratio of length of ship = 36 : x

According to Question now :

→ 8 : 16 = 36 : x

→ 8/16 = 36/x

Cross multiplying both the sides we get :

→ x × 8 = 36 × 16

→ 8x = 576

→ x = 576 ÷ 8

x = 72 m

  • Hence,the model ship is 72 m long.

V E R I F I C A T I O N :

→ 8/16 = 36/x

→ 8/16 = 36/72

→ 8 × 72 = 36 × 16

576 = 576

For a 12 m high mast, the height of mast of model ship =9 cm=0.09m

For a 1 m high mast, the height of mast of model ship =120.09 m

Therefore, the ratio of dimensions of model ship and actual ship =120.09 m

For a 1 m long ship, length of model ship =120.09 m

For a 28 m long ship, length of model ship =120.09 m∗28=0.21m=21 cm
