The three challenges faced by immigrants who came to the United States in the late 1800s were crop failure, job shortages, and raising taxes.

  1. Crop Failure: The regular crop failures ultimately led to famine. Many people starved to death. the immigrants believed the United States to be a prosperous and rich country. The immigrants believed that they will face no food crisis in the U.S.
  2. Job Shortages: The United States was known as the land of opportunities. Immigrants thought because of the many industries in the country they will get ample job opportunities. Though in reality, the U.S was itself facing land and job shortages.
  3. Raising Taxes: The immigrants faced the challenge of raising taxes. They were often exploited by the local administration for this.
