In a parallelogram shaped field, a square shaped dais with side 3 m is to be constructed at the centre. If the base of the parallelogram and corresponding altitude are 25 m and 20 m respectively, then find the area of the left space after the construction of the dais.

Let ABCD is a parallelogram with longer side AB = 25 cm and altitude AE = 10 cm. Therefore AB = CD (opposite sides of parallelogram are equal). The shorter side is AD = 20 cm and the corresponding altitude is CF. We know that area of a parallelogram = Base x Height We have two altitudes and two corresponding bases. So, by equating them AD x CF = CD x AE 20 x CF = 25 x 10 CF = 12.5 cm Hence, the altitude corresponding to the other pair of the side AD is 12.5 cm.Read more on Sarthaks.com - https://www.sarthaks.com/690463/two-sides-parallelogram-are-20-cm-and-25-cm-if-the-altitude-corresponding-the-sides-length

Answer:

We are given, that two sides of a parallelogram are 20 cm and 25 cm

Now,

Area of parallelogram = height (or Altitude) × base

here, Base QR is having altitude PT & Base SR is having altitude QU.

So, QR×PT=SR×QU

25×10=20×QU

Now, QU=x so,

x=

20

25×10

=12.5cm

So, the altitude corresponding to the other pair of sides is 12.5cm
