In a Parliamentary democratic country like India the Prime Minister is considered as the real head of the Nation. The leader of the party or the coalition of parties which enjoy the majority in the Lok Sabha is by default elected by the President as the Prime Minister. Though constitutionally all the executive powers are vested upon the President it is actually exercised by the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Ministers.

Function:-

1. He becomes the leader of the Lok Sabha and has the right to summon and prorogue its sessions

2. His duties towards his party increases. He is responsible for the proper working of the party during elections.

3. He becomes leader of the entire Nation as he works according to the needs and benefits of the people.

4. He is the leader of the Cabinet Minister and Union Council of Minister. President with his advice elects thd other members of the council. He assigns the portfolios, shifts them from one department to another and can even ask to resign whenever necessary.

5. He is the advisor of the President as he cannot exercise any of his duty without the advice of the Prime Minister. He acts as a bridge between the President and the Council of Minister ensuring the proper flow information.

He is basically the representative of the Nation. He represents his country in foreign meetings and is responsible for its well being.
