Hi kas12,

In a pen ( a small enclosure ) there are rabbits and pheasants ( game rabbits ). They have between them 35heads and 98feet. how many rabbits are there?

Answer:-

Let r→Rabbits
p→pheasants

Total number of heads=35
r+p=35

Total number of feet=98
Rabbits have 4 and pheasants have 2

So,
4r+2p=98

r+p=35
Multiply 2 on both sides,
2r+2p=70-------(1)
4r+2p=98------(2)

(2)-(1)
4r+2p=98
2r+2p=70
________
2r+0=28
r=28/2
r=14

Therefore, there are 14 rabbits.
No.of pheasants=35-14
=21

Hope it helps....☺

let x and y be the number of legs for rabbits and pheasants respectively

since rabbit have 4 legs ..No of legs does x rabbit = 4x

since the pheasants have 2legs ....no of legs does y pheasants have is 2y

As per first condition

x+y=35 ......1

As per second condition

4x+2y=98

By simplifying we get x =14 and y = 21

conclusion

no of rabbits =14
