In a plant population gene S shows four alternate forms- S(1), S(2), S(3) and S(4). If the order of dominance among them is S(1)>S(2)>S(3)>S(4) then how many types of genotypè and phenotypes will be represented respectively.

Answer:

Number of phenotypes = 2^n = 16

Number of genotypes = n.(n+1)/2 = 10

Here n, is the alternate form of gene.

Explanation:

Number

Of types for a given number of alleles Given n alleles at a locus, the number genotypes possible is the sum of the integers between 1 and n:

With 2 alleles, the number of genotypes is 1 + 2 = 3

3 alleles there are 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 genotypes

4 alleles there are 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10 genotypes.

General formula = n.(n+1)/2

So number of genotype =10

Number of phenotypes = 2^n = 2^4 = 16.
