in a rational no., the denominator exceed the numerator by4. if numerator and denominator are both increased by 9,the rational no. becomes 7/8 find the original rational no.

let the numerator be x
denominator = x+4
after adding 9 to both,
numerator = x+9
denominator = x+4+9
=x+13
ATQ,
x+9/x+13 = 7/8
8x+72 = 7x+ 91
8x-7x = 91-72
x = 19
therefore, the original no. is numerator = 19 and denominator = 23
the no. = 19/23
