In a reaction, 2.65 g of sodium carbonate reacted with 3 g of ethanoic acid. The products were 1.1 g of carbon dioxide, 0.45 g water and 4.1 g of sodium ethanoate.
Show that these observations are in agreement with the law of conservation of mass,
sodium carbonate + ethanoic acid -------> sodium ethanoate + carbon dioxide + water.

Answer:

Total mass of reactants 2.65g + 3g = 5.65g

Total mass of products 4.1g + 1.1g+0.45g = 5.65g

Since the total mass of reactants and the total mass of products is equal, hence the above reaction obeys the law of conservation of mass
