in a rectangle, difference between lenght and breadth is 7cm. If lenght of its diagonal is 13cm, then fimd the area of the rectangle​

ANSWER :

Area of the rectangle is 60 cm²

EXPLANATION :

Let the Length and Breadth be l and b respectively

l-b = 7

l = 7+b......(1)

Diagonal = 13 cm

Using pythagoras theorem,

(l)²+(b)² = 13²

(7+b)²+(b)² = 13²

49+14b+b²+b² = 169

14b + 2b² = 120

2b²+14b - 120 = 0

b²+7b - 60 = 0

b=-12 or b=5

We neglect - 12 because it is negative and Breadth cannot be negative

So b=5 cm

l=7+5 = 12 cm

Area of the rectangle = lb = 12 × 5

= 60 cm²
