This is Newton second law of motion i.e.

force is the rate of change of momentum right

now

force d(mv)/dt

now as a mass is not constant we will do partial differentiation

and get

f=v*dm/dt+m*dv/dt

hope it helps

we know just

f= mdv/dt because mass is constant in most of the cases
