Given : In a row of people,

P is second from the left and

R is 16th from the right.

If P and R interchange their positions, P becomes 12th from the left.

To Find : How many people are there in the row?

Solution:

P is second from the left and R is 16th from the right.

hence 1 is on left side of P

and 15 are on right side of R

 1  P  ---------------    R ------- 15 -----------

P and R interchange their positions,

=> hence 1 is on left side of R

and 15 are on right side of P

  1  R  ---------------    P ------- 15 -----------

becomes 12th from the left.

Hence 11   on left side of P

=>   ------11  ------ P ------- 15 -----------

11 on left side of P and 15 on right sides of P and P himself

so total  = 11 + 1 + 15

= 27

27 people are in row.
