Total students participated in the camp = \frac{13X}{40}

Explanation:

Let us assume total no.of students in a school  = X.

Girls participated in the camp from school (G) = 1/5 (X) = X/5.

Boys participated in the camp from school (B) = 1/8 (X) = X/8.

Total students in the camp from school (T) = G + B

T = \frac{X}{5} + \frac{X}{8}

L.C.M of 5,8 = 40

T =  \frac{8(X) + 5(X)}{40}

T = \frac{13 X}{40}

Total students attended (T) = \frac{13X}{40}
