Hi ,
Let the total students = x
Number of girls = 5x / 8
Number of boys = ( x - 5x / 8 ) = 2x/8
According to the problem given,
Number of girls - number of boys =
120
5x / 8 - 2x / 8 = 120
( 5x - 2x ) /8 = 120
3x / 8 = 120
x = 120 × ( 8 / 3 )
x = 40 × 8
x = 320
Therefore ,
Total students = x = 320
Number of boys = 2x / 8
= ( 2 × 320 ) / 8
= 2 × 40
= 80
I hope this helps you.
