Let the no. of students be x

no. of girls= 5x/8....(1)

no.of boys= 3x/8.... (2)

5x/8= 120+ 3x/8

5x/8-3x/8= 120

2x/8= 120

2x= 120*8

2x= 960

x=960/2

x=480

Putting the value of x in1:

5x/8= 5(480)/4= 300 (no. of girls)

Putting the value of x in 2

3x/8= 3(480)/8= 180 (no. of boys)

Hope it helps.

Step-by-step explanation:

let the total no. of student = x

no. of girls = 5/8

no. of boys = x - 5/8x

= 3/8x

according to question

= 5/8x - 3/8x = 120

=2/8x = 120

= x = 120×8/2

= x =480

no. of boys =3/8x

3/8×480 = 180

no. of girls = 5/8x

=5/8×480 = 300
