In a test of safety restraint, a test car was slowed from 50 m s-1 to rest in a time of 0.40 s. (a) what acceleration was this? (b)how far did the car travel in this time? (Wikipedia)

acceleration=velocity/time

=50/0.4

=500/4

=125ms-².

v   = u   + \: at

50 = 2×125×t

t = 50/250

= 0.2 s.
