In a thermodynamical process, 300 joule of heat is supplied to a gas and 200 joule of work is done by the gas. What is the change in internal energy of the system?

sign convention

heat given to the system = +ve

heat released by the system = -ve

work done by the system = +ve

work done on the system = -ve

now , apply first law of thermodynamics

dq= du+dw

300=du+200

du=100 joule
