Translatory motion is a motion in which all the particles of an object move through the same distance in the same time period.

They can be of two types- Rectilinear motion and Curvilinear motion and therefore it is not necessary for an object to move in a straight line.

Rectilinear motions are straight line motions in which the object moves along a straight line.

The curvilinear motion refers to the motion of an object along a curved line.
