In a ∆ABC, DE is parallel to BC .... Given

Using Basic Proportionality Theorem,

 \bold{ \frac{AD}{DB}  =  \frac{ AE}{EC} }

 \bold{ \frac{3}{DB}  =   \cancel \frac{8}{12} }

 \bold{ \frac{3}{DB}  = \frac{2}{3} }

 \bold{DB =  \frac{3 \times 3}{2} }

 \bold{DB =  \frac{9}{2} }

 \bold{DB = 4.5}

 \bold{AB = AD + DB}

 \bold{AB = 3 + 4.5}

 \bold{AB = 7.5}
