Answer:

15

Step-by-step explanation:

let,

 x = previous enrollment

 y = current enrollment.

        therefore:

                y = 2x

now, is y = 30

then,

      y = 2x

      30 = 2x

      x = 30/2 = 15

the number of girls enrolled previous year was 15

(a) The linear equation is: y = 2x

we have, y = this year's enrollment.

x= previous year's enrollment.

as previous year's enrollment has doubled or two times of this year's enrollment,

                                    y = 2x

hence, the linear equation so formed is y = 2x

(b) If the previous year's enrollment was 35,  this year's enrollment is 70.

we have,

x =35 = previous year enrollment

y = this year's enrollment.

we have,          y = 2x

                       y = 2*35

                        y = 70

therefore, the number of girls enrolled this year is 70.
