total steps =18
each time the frog climbs=4 steps
each time he falls =2 steps
so no of jumps he should make =18÷(4-2)
=18÷2
=9 jumps

Concept:

First determine the speed in that case speed is net displacement per jump and then divide the speed with total distance to find the required.

Given:

In a water tank the water level is 18 steps below the top a frog wants to go out of the tank he jumps 4 steps up and slips By 2 Steps down in every move.

Find:

The number of jumps he needs to be out of the tank.

Solution:

The total distance is 18 steps to get out of the tank.

Frog is at the bottom of the tank in this case. He has to cover total 18 steps upwards.

In each jump he goes 4 steps up and 2 steps down.

So net speed = 4-2 = 2 steps up/ jump

Thus he needed = 18/2 = 9 jumps to get out of the tank.

Hence Frog needed 9 jumps to be out of the tank.
