In ∆ABC, angle B =90°, If D is mid point of side BC, AB = 8cm and AD =10cm,then (AC)=?

AC = 14.4cm

Step-by-step explanation:

BD = DC = x

Consider Triangle ABD,

By Pythagoras Theorem,

BD^2 = AD^2 - AB^2

= 10^2 - 8^2

= 100 - 64

= 36

BD = 6cm

x = 6cm

==> BC = BD + DC

= x + x = 2x

= 2×6 = 12cm

Now consider Triangle ABC,

By Pythagoras Theorem,

AC^2 = AB^2 + BC^2

= 8^2 + 12^2

= 64 + 144

= 208

AC = 14.4 cm
