In aclass test , the sum of marks obtained by a student in maths and science is 28. Had he got 3 marks more in maths and 4 marks less in science, the product of marks would have been 180. Find his marks in two subjects

Let the marks be x and 28-x.
Given :
x (28-x)=180
 - x ^{2}  + 28x = 180
x {}^{2}  - 28x + 180 = 0
x {}^{2}  - 18x - 10x + 180 = 0
x(x - 18) - 10(x - 18) = 0
(x - 18)(x - 10) = 0
Therefore
x = 18 \: or \: 10
