Answer :

The required sum = 66

Solution :

Let us take a as the first term and d as the common ratio.

2nd term = a + (2 - 1)d = a + d

a + d = 33

∴ Sum of the 1st term and 3rd term

= 1st term + 3rd term

= a + {a + (3 - 1)d}

= a + a + 2d

= 2a + 2d

= 2 (a + d)

= 2 × 33

= 66

To know :

If a be the first term of an AP and d be the common ratio, the n-th term of the AP be

= a + (n - 1)d
