the consequences are:
1. the switch to new type of food and enter new niches.
2. this leads to different variety of beetles as some changes will take place in them to adapt themselves.

Adaptions and biological changes are very common in every species due to the change of their surrounding's environment and it's components.
And if in an area the natural leaf food decreases for the beetles, they will mostly do two things:
1)They will change their living environment.
Or,
2)They will change their eating habits with the available food in that environment.
