Let the number of chairs in each row be x.
Then, the number of rows = x.
Total number of chairs in the auditorium = ( ) = .
But the number of chairs that the auditorium can accommodate = 1764 (given)

Hence, the number of chairs in each row is 42.

Answer:

That means the number of chairs in each row, i.e., number of columns (which is equal to the number of rows) must be the square root of the number of total chairs. ∴ Number of chairs in each row = Number of rows = √1764 = 42.

Hope it helps.
