Given : 40% of voters do not cast their votes due to various reasons

To Find :  (i) The total number of voters, if 720 voters cast their votes.

(ii)The number of votes cast, if the total number of voters are 1000.

Solution:

Let say total voters = V

Voters did  not cast their votes = (40/100)V = 0.4V

Voters casted their votes = V  - 0.4V = 0.6V

0.6V = 720

=> V = 1200

The total number of voters 1200 if 720 voters cast their votes.

total number of voters are 1000.

Voters did  not cast their votes = (40/100)1000 = 400

Voters casted their votes = 1000  -400 = 600 Votes

The number of votes cast 600 , if the total number of voters are 1000.
