487 votes are invalid which is 2% of the original.
SO, 9740 votes are 40% of the original
A secured 40% of votes
 Total votes = 24350
B's votes  = 24350-9740-487 = 14123
B secured 58% of votes

Hi ,

Let the total votes polled = x

invalid votes = 487

2 % of total votes = 487

2/100 × x = 487

x = ( 487 × 2 ) /100

x = 24350

Therefore ,

Total votes = x = 24350

Number of votes A secured = 9740

Percentage of votes A secured

= ( 9740/ 24350 ) × 100

= 40%

Percentage of votes B secured

= 100 - A votes% - invalid votes %

= 100 - 40 - 2

= 100 - 42

= 58%

I hope this helps you.
