Answer:

Difference between votes polled for X and Y is 600.

Given:

Total number of votes polled = 6000.

45% of votes were polled for X.

To find:

Difference between votes polled for X and Y.

Solution:

First, we have to find the number of votes polled for Y.

=> X+Y = 6000

=> 45% of 6000 + Y = 6000

=> 45/100 × 6000 + Y = 6000

=> 45×60 + Y = 6000

=> 2700 + Y = 6000

=> Y = 6000-2700

=> Y = 3300

Now, Difference between votes polled for X and Y

=> 3300 - 2700

=> 600.

Hence, difference between votes polled for X and Y is 600.

Verification for the values of x and y.

X + Y = 6000

=> 2700 + 3300 = 6000

=> 6000 = 6000

Here, LHS = RHS.

Hence, verified.
