Hey!!!!

___________

Total Votes Polled = 4000

y got 40%

 =  >  \frac{40}{100}  \times 4000

=> 40 x 40

=> 1600

Thus x got (4000 - 1600) = 2400

Margin = 2400 - 1600

=> 800

Thus x won by 800 seats

__________

Hope this helps ✌️

40/100*4000=1600 votes for y
(100-40)/100*4000=60/100*4000=2400
margin of defeat=2400-1600=800
