Question

In an electric circuit, the Current becomes half when the Resistance is

a) Doubled

b) Halved

c) Removed

d) None of the above

Solution

From ohm's law,

The potential difference (V) across the end of the wire is directly proportional to current (I) flowing through that wire, provides the temperature remains constant.

V ∝ I

If we remove the sign of proportional then there comes a constant i.e. R (resistance).

V = IR

V/I = R

Since, current is inversely proportional to resistance. So, when resistance will increase, current will decrease or if current increase then resistance will decrease.

And resistance is directly proportional to potential difference. So, with increase in potential difference, resistance increase and with decrease in potential difference, resistance decreases.

As per given condition, current becomes halved (I/2).

If the current is halved then the resistance become doubled.

Option a) Doubled
